Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted -- John Lennon
Hello Everybody,
We're 3 weeks into th second semester. Week 4 starts tomorrow and it is just a little crazy with assignments and homework. I know I have let you down by not writing a blog last week and I wanna make it up to you. So here a blog about two weeks with some extra stuff about how to adjust back into your own society.
Last week nothing really notable happened so i'll just move on to the weekend and the past week.
So last weekend was Carnaval which was amazing as always. I maybe went a little to hard on saturday meaning sunday I wasn't feeling all too well. Ask my boyfriend's family. Sunday I still went out but I was the designated driver and we went home early. My friends did go out a few more days but because I had schoool I decided it would be for the better if focused on that. My liver is probably very grateful for my adult decision making.
Instead I went to have dinner at a friends house on monday. It was really nice to see her again and catch up and the dinner was absolutely delicious.
Tuesday Carmella came over for wine and munchies which was just as lovely! we went through 2 bottles of wine and it was nice hearing about how she is doing now and reminisce on when she was in Liverpool with me.
So that was nice. then wednesday I went to my boyfriends place for the duration of his internship and we had dinner and watched some series and then I had to get up really early again because he had to go to work. I was short but nice. It was cool to see how he is managing on his own.
I still have not unpacked all my boxes and my empty suitcases are all over my room. it is a right mess. I'll fix it. eventually. Right now I am in the train to the hague because tomorrow I have class again.
Tuesday I am going to my study advisor to talk about my future. ooooooooh. so exciting. hope she agrees that my plans are workable and I can do everything my heart desires. but I'll keep you posted.
Homework is really overwhelming when you come back from 2 subjects and now all of a sudden you have 5. I am seriously time managing this shit. eventhough I should be doing homework right now and instead am writing this blog.
This weekend was nice as well. really, really lazy, with a lot of nice food.
How does one adjust to normal life after an exchange? you've seen so many new things, done so many new things, came in contact with other cultures. It was so overwhelming that one might forget what your own culture was. I didn't forget but I had to get used to a few things. The time schedule for example , my spanish roommates have really ruined me on that aspect. I felt like having dinner at 10. Muchas gracias chicas.
Another thing I really had to get used to again was that I didn't have to speak English all the time. I caught myself saying: 'excuse me' when trying to get past people, and I said 'hi' and 'hello' when going into stores instead of being like a normal Dutch person and saying 'goeiemorgen'. I'm kinda getting used to it again, eventhough I still use it to get away from the people that try to sell you things on the street.
My tea drinking has not reduced since coming home to the Netherlands but I've always been a tea lover. I missed Dutch food a little bit, not a lot, but it is nice to have some dutch 'frikandellen' and a good ol' 'stamppot' every once in a while.
I have not yet adjusted back into our bicycle dominated traffic situation and have been taking the tram instead. How very undutch of me.
Main thing: just take it easy, you've had a hell of a semester/year and you are in no rush. there are no deadlines for you to feel totally at home again. Relax. You've probably missed things, but that is okay, you've been away. Take some time to catch up with people. They are probably really excited to see you and wanna hear all about your adventure as much as you want to hear about what went on at the homefront.
Time for me to get on that homework
Talk to you all soon, hopefully with better blog content.
Bye
